ZURICH (Reuters) – Moderna will deliver 7.5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine to Switzerland in glasses in the coming months, placing the country among the world leaders in protecting its population , said European industry leader Moderna.
“We are working at full speed to gradually expand our production capacity. If all goes according to plan, just under half of the population could be treated with our vaccine in the summer, ”Dan Staner told the newspaper SonntagsBlick in an interview.
Staner said Switzerland would not receive welfare treatment as it was the first country to choose Moderna as a provider.
“All countries deserve equal treatment. We refuse to collect and deliver vaccines only when a country orders them. All dispensed doses will be delivered immediately, in accordance with the contract, ”he said.
“People are suffering the same way around the world. In times like these no one deserves special treatment. “
Swiss regulators have agreed vaccines from Moderna and Pfizer with partner BioNTech. They are still reviewing a vaccine from AstraZeneca.
Switzerland, with a population of 8.6 million, has ordered a total of 15 million vaccine doses after setting aside 400 million Swiss francs ($ 449 million) for shots.
