Piers Morgan is leaving ITV’s “Good Morning Britain” news show after looking back for comments he made about Meghan Markle on Monday.
The news comes shortly after UK broadcasting regulator Ofcom said it was investigating Morgan after more than 41,000 people complained.
“Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has now decided that now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain,” the network said in a statement on Tuesday. “ITV has accepted the decision. this and nothing else to add. “
Just hours earlier, Morgan had been called out by co-host Alex Beresford on “Good Morning Britain” for his transport to the Duchess of Sussex. Beresford said Morgan has been relentlessly critical of Meghan in recent years and cited Morgan ‘s latest comments, which cast doubt on Meghan’ s veracity when she spoke out about suicide comments.
The incident on the air caused Morgan to walk away.
Morgan’s latest comments about Meghan are related to an explosive interview she and Prince Harry gave to Oprah Winfrey, which aired in the US on Sunday and in the UK on Monday. More than 17.1 million state people were gearing up for the event and more than 12 million viewers watched the UK broadcast, according to figures released by ITV on Tuesday.
The interview explored in depth the reasons why the couple decided to leave England and step away from their royal duties. Meghan and Harry addressed what they said was a lack of support Meghan received when she went to the palace for mental health issues, denied security protection to the family, and some royals worries about what would be the skin tone of their son Archie one once he was born.
