Manchester City defender Angelino is expected to complete a permanent move to RB Leipzig in the summer after a € 18 million (£ 16m / $ 21m) purchase, Amas can confirm.

The Spaniard joined a Bundesliga club on a long-term loan in September with a buy-in-duty clause.

Angelino had to appear in 12 games throughout the season, with five of those in the second half of the campaign, and he surpassed that number on Friday night when he started his Bundesliga win against Augsburg.

Why is he leaving City?

Angelino first joined City as a 16-year-old from Deportivo La Coruna and enjoyed it as he worked his way through the academy stages.

But the left-hander joined PSV on a permanent move in 2018 after loan spells with New York City FC, Girona and Mallorca.

City used a buy-back clause after starring for the Dutch side but made just six appearances under Pep Guardiola before joining Leipzig on loan last January and again at the start of the season. this season.

What was said?

“I have that thorns on why I didn’t play more or I wasn’t very fit [at City]. But that helped me get here, meet the coach, the group, and reach the semis in the Champions League, ”said Angelino in November.

“If I’m honest, I’m here for [head coach Julian] Nagelsmann. I signed up again for it. I was very pleased with it, the way he played, everything, everything he spreads, the inventions, fits me perfectly. He is the reason I am here. Obviously, the relationship with colleagues is very good as well.

“Something came out of interest [from Barcelona], but Leipzig drew me a lot to come back and in my head, I wanted to calm down and keep enjoying football like I did a few months ago and stay there. “

The big picture

Angelino’s move to Leipzig was always going through because of the way the 24-year-old has grown to be a key part of Nagelsman’s plans.

The 24-year-old has started all but one of Leipzig’s 21 Bundesliga games in addition to their Champions League group stage matches.

Coming through the ranks as a left-back, Angelino has thrived higher up the pitch as a left-back under a German coach and was even used as a midfielder.
