Manchester United ‘plan to offer Mason Greenwood a new contract in 2021’

Manchester United are set to offer Mason Greenwood a new contract in 2021 despite a 19-year scoring just once in the Premier League this season … as Andy Cole says the teenager can be one of the best fighters in the world

  • Mason Greenwood scored 17 times for the Red Devils in 2019-20
  • It has been tougher this term though with only one league goal named
  • Covid-19 broke and nostalgia for training the teenager in hot water
  • However, he has regained the trust of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after five straight starts
  • Former Red Devils striker Andy Cole believes Greenwood can go to the top

Manchester United plan to offer Mason Greenwood a new contract in 2021.

The development, announced by movement guru Fabrizio Romano on the Here We Go podcast, comes after Greenwood just added a pen to a paper on new terms in October 2019.

The 19-year-old has only found the back of the net once in the Premier League this season in a 3-1 away win at West Ham earlier in December.

Greenwood has yet to hit last season’s heights – having scored 17 goals in 49 games in all competitions for the Red Devils – but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a huge fan of the youngster and is to be held at Old Trafford.

He was sent home from England duty alongside Phil Foden after the pair broke Covid-19 restrictions by inviting two women back to their team’s hotel in Iceland after a 1-0 win at the Three Lions in Reykjavik.

Greenwood recently got on the wrong side of Solskjaer after turning up late to training several times.

But the striker has regained the confidence of his Norwegian boss and has started the last five games for United, the latest of which wins the Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday night at Everton.

Former Red Devils legend Andy Cole has backed Greenwood to immerse himself in the pantomime of great fighters ever, telling The Target Men Podcast: ‘I believe the virtues and potential of Mason Greenwood to go on to become one of the best strikers in the world within the next five years.

‘I think if Mason keeps working hard and keeps his head down, he will achieve anything he wants to achieve in football.

‘I’m delighted to see him in a Manchester United shirt for years to come. ‘
