Pep Guardiola has admitted that Manchester City are headed for the unknown after several coronavirus cases.

Kyle Walker and Gabriel Jesus will both be involved in Sunday’s FA Cup tie with Birmingham City after their loneliness, with City also close to welcoming back goalkeeper Ederson and player Ferran Torres.

But Guardiola admitted he can’t predict how those affected will react to the virus and revealed that Ilkay Gundogan took weeks to regain fitness earlier in the season.

‘We’re a little worried about this and we have to be careful,’ Guardiola said.

‘Some players deal well but for example Gundo struggled a bit after what happened in the summer.

‘The doctor doesn’t know how the bodies will treat Covid. It’s really good news for them to join the team but we have to talk to them, to the doctors, to the physios.

‘And we have to see how they deal after a training session, and the day after that. It’s all a matter for every player. ‘

Sergio Aguero is expected to start for the first time from October on Sunday as Guardiola continues to manage the striker’s minutes.

‘It would be good for him to be fit and in the best condition,’ Guardiola said.

‘He’s optimistic and positive, he’s been saying he’ll make a good season – “I’ll get a lot of goals” – and that’s the most important thing.
