Jamie Dimon said the U.S. global bank is suspending donations to reconsider the U.S. Capitol’s violent siege that led to five deaths and the second impeachment of President Donald Trump.
The bank is “taking a break, taking a deep breath, figuring out what we need to change and how we should change,” said JPMorgan chairman and CEO at the National Retail Federation’s inaugural conference on January 13th.
According to the NRF, Dimon described the “rusty” incidents that unfolded and said: “We saw something terrible in DC,” Dimon said, “which was a violent attack on the Capitol. And that is not reasonable on any basis. We had an election, it went through the courts, people raised issues, state governments, courts, it proved it. We have a new president. People may like it or not, but we should never accept violence like that. ”
Dimon’s comments came on the same day that Donald Trump made history for becoming the first two-time incumbent U.S. president.
With the bitter end of Trump’s presidency, Citigroup has also suspended political action committee (PAC) donations to Republicans and Democrats in the coming months.

Further, Deutsche Bank has chosen to suspend any future business with Trump and Signature Bank has announced that it will close two Trump-owned personal accounts valued at approximately $ 5.3m.
It’s up to everyone, Dimon said, “to say publicly, ‘It’s okay to complain. No violence, no attack on government buildings, etc. ”
Dimon noted that being involved in the political process is a “very good thing” but also said that there are “17,000 lobbying groups in DC, and not even half of it is related to industry. ”
Among them, communication, impact and reform can often be more local than national.
“Taking a break, taking a deep breath, figuring out what we need to change, and how we should change, what other people might change, I think it is to do something completely reasonable, ”said Dimon.
