Italy to give only one COVID-19 vaccine picture to its predecessors

MILAN, March 4 (Reuters) – Italy will administer a single dose of vaccine for those already infected with COVID-19, the health ministry said late Wednesday.

“A single dose of vaccine for people with previous SARS-CoV-2 infection may be considered symptomatic or asymptomatic,” the ministerial statement said.

The recommendation applies to people who have been diagnosed with COVID between three and six months previously.

France and Spain announced a similar policy last month, in a move that also appears to be aimed at saving vaccination views and boosting supply while EU countries struggle to run their vaccination campaigns because of supply cuts imposed by drug dealers.

Italy, which has a population of about 60 million, had given 4.76 doses of vaccines early Thursday, with about 1.5 million people getting the two recommended doses. (Reporting by Emilio Parodi; Editing by Crispian Balmer & Shri Navaratnam)
