Electronic Arts buys Glu Mobile, Maker of ‘Kim Kardashian: Hollywood’

said Monday that it is getting Glu Mobile Inc.

in a $ 2.4 billion contract aimed at expanding the scope of business in which the videogame giant had mixed success.

The full-money deal, which is expected to close in the quarter to end in June, will bring Glu mobile games such as “Kim Kardashian: Hollywood,” “Diner Dash” and “MLB Tap Sports Baseball” to EA. Glu shareholders will receive a $ 12.50 share, representing a 36% base price to Friday’s Glu closing price, EA said.

Shares of glue rose 34% to $ 12.56 in extended trading on Monday.

“We did this because we believe mobile is the fastest growing platform on the planet” for video conferencing, said EA CEO Andrew Wilson. “The combination of these two companies creates a market leader in lifestyle and sport. ”

Mr Wilson said Glu, which has around 800 employees, will be able to build games based on EA’s intellectual property and take advantage of its marketing expertise and global presence to grow. “As successful as they were, they still did not have much international reach,” said Mr Wilson. “This is an opportunity for us to help them unlock that door.”
