Billionaire hedge fund manager Steven Cohen deletes Twitter account after receiving threats

Steve Cohen, billionaire owner at Point72 Asset Management, has deleted his Twitter account after receiving personal threats.

The owner of the New York Mets went against a backlash on Twitter last week after Melvin Capital, which lost billions short of its promise on high shares of GameStop video retailer, received a $ 2.75bn investment from Point72 Asset Management and Citadel on 25 January.

“I really enjoyed it again and again with Mets fans on Twitter who were unfortunately taken over this week with misinformation not related to the Mets that made our family threaten. get personal, ”Cohen said in a statement, according to an article published on MarketWatch.

“So I’m going to take a break now. We have other ways to listen to your suggestions and we remain committed to doing so. “

Point72 was contacted for comment.

GameStop shares have soared in the past few weeks after an army of Reddit traders led a campaign to boost the price of their shares.

Last week, Cohen complained about being targeted by Reddit traders. “Rough crowd on Twitter tonight,” Cohen hit on Jan. 27. “Hey stock jackets take it with you. ”

Cohen also provided a word exchange with Dave Portnoy, founder of Barstool Sports, who defeated Point72, Citadel and the Robinhood breakout platform last week for engaging in GameStop trades.

“Hey Dave, What meat do you have with me, ‘Cohen tweeted last week.” I’m just trying to make a living just like you. We are happy to take this offline. “

“I don’t do offline,” Portnoy replied.
