Jan 26 (Reuters) – New Zealand Cricket Chief David White has expressed concerns that they may not be able to host Australia in upcoming series after the country confirmed the first case of COVID-19 in the community in months.
New Zealand men will host Australia in the five-game Twenty20 series starting on February 22 in Christchurch. The women’s team will play England in three one-day and three T20s from February 23 before hosting Australia.
New Zealand on Monday confirmed its first community outbreak of COVID-19 in months in a 56-year-old woman, forcing Australia to immediately stop travel bubbles with the country for 72 hours.
“We are very hopeful that the tours to New Zealand will continue with Australian teams,” White told Stuff media in New Zealand.
“We have been led by New Zealand government agencies over the summer, they have been very supportive and supportive, and we will continue to lead them. ”
White said the England women’s team will arrive in New Zealand on Tuesday.
New Zealand men are ready to embark on a tour of England for two trials in June and White is confident the series will go ahead despite the COVID-19 situation there.
“We’ve been working with the Cricket Board of England and Wales (ECB) for the last 12 months, just working together on the various bio-bubbles and things,” said White.
“They are very advanced, very capable in their approach, and we are very confident that it will all be in order for our players.” (Reported by Arvind Sriram in Bengaluru; Edited by Peter Rutherford)
