A fireball flew over Chatham-Kent on Friday night

WINDSOR, ONT. – Those outside in Chatham on Friday night may have seen a bright white light up the night sky.

A fireball “as bright as the full moon” passed Chatham at 10:07 pm

Western University professor, meteor scientist and planetary astronaut Peter Brown tweeted on video of the event Saturday morning.

Observers in Ontario, Michigan and New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania said they saw the fireball. The incident was captured on several space cameras belonging to NASA’s All Sky Fireball Network and the Southern Ontario Meteor Network operated by Western University, a website on the event says.

“At its clearest, the fireball was standing on the fourth Moon in intensity. Linking this to the distance, the cookie will give a mass of at least 2 kilograms and a diameter of about 12 centimeters (5 inches), ”the website says.

Data show that the meteor was caused by a comet of the Jupiter family.
