Eran Zehavi’s season opener in the Netherlands was one of the disappointments he has experienced in recent years, but it seems that the show against Ajax gave the Israeli star a boost. Tonight (Wednesday), the striker’s great performance has garnered further compliments, this time from Bodwin Zandan, a former PSV player and coach and who has recorded a glorious career at Barcelona, Liverpool and Chelsea among others.
“He was looking for himself at first, but he is an experienced player who has scored many goals in his career,” Zandan said of the Israeli. “People can say it’s in China or Israel, but you’ll have to do it anyway. If you see how he trains, you understand he knows what he’s doing. He always stays after training and keeps working, he’s alive.”
“Zehavi reminds me of Lampard,” the former player continued. “After training, he would always stay with a bag of 20 balls and start kicking towards the goal. It’s not surprising that it comes out in the game. If you invest, it pays off.”
Roger Schmidt also received a lot of compliments for Zahavi ahead of the game against Alkmaar: “It has been difficult for him in recent months, he has worked hard to come back from injury. He has shown his qualities in a great game and his coordination with Donil Mullen and it is good for us that we need goals from both.”
