Zaha Hadid Architects has won the design competition to build Phase II of the International Exhibition Center in Beijing. Located at the heart of New City International Airport in Shunyi District of Beijing, the center will welcome local residents as well as visitors from all over China and the world. The team explains that the “unified relationships between the exhibition halls, the conference center and the hotel are rewritten in the composition of the venue, arranged as a series of lines between -turned and geometry inspired by glass tubular square tile roof textures within traditional Chinese architecture. “

The project will include a series of shared courts for informal meetings, as well as designed gardens, cafes and outdoor public event spaces. At the same time, a composite roof system is designed to protect the interior environment with symmetrical geometry to create a large, lightweight, efficient structure. The result will be a flexible, columnless space that can adapt to changes in displays and the nature of use. The team continues to note that modular manufacturing and construction methods will be used to reduce construction time, investment and operating costs of the facility.
