YouTube will not be opening Spaces again as its trends focus on a new hybrid model

YouTube will not open its YouTube corporate Spaces in Berlin, London, Los Angeles, New York, Paris, Rio, and Tokyo. The company said it is now shifting the focus to a hybrid model that combines meaningful and personalized pop-up programming.

YouTube Spaces was launched almost nine years ago to help content creators accelerate the company’s facilities such as a better studio, hosting events or running classes. Following a positive response, YouTube expanded the Spaces to pop-up outlets to reach more content creators in different areas, especially where it would not have established a physical facility. Since their expansion, YouTube has hosted over 45 pop-up events across 20 cities including Madrid, Milan, Cairo, Jakarta, Taiwan, and Mumbai. Around 15,000 creators and artists have attended these Pop-up events to date.

Even as the Pop-up events have become very popular for YouTube, its physical spaces have been closed due to the Covid-19. The pandemic on YouTube, just like any other digital business, led to the adoption of virtual machines for accessibility. YouTube said it hosted thousands of online events including a Shorts workshop for content creators in India last year. The company pointed out that their virtual events had reached more than 70,000 people across 145 countries while their corporate Space facilities were closed.

“We firmly believe that this new flexible strategy will allow us to reach more sectors, and make a positive impact on more and more existing creators and artists by giving them the guidance and resources they need to take their craft to the next level, ”YouTube said in a post.

YouTube has also shared a roadmap for the hybrid-Pop-up hybrid events to be held later this year. It hosts multi-week development programs for the first #YouTubeBlack Voice Fund for creators and artists. They said it would relaunch pop-up events when personal events were allowed. Events include workshops for new products such as Shorts and events such as Music Nights.
