The England senior international is currently being asked to fill a reserve position, but believes he can still add in the third final
Callum Hudson-Odoi believes that, despite being asked to fill a backup position under Thomas Tuchel, he should be looking to provide a goal or help in every game he plays. e for Chelsea.
The progressive 20-year-old has gone behind the net 13 times for the Blues in 86 appearances and has made 15 attempts for teammates.
He believes he can offer a lot more in an effort to be a player who is “scared of every team”, and is looking to replicate the record of a youth team that has seen it hits 31 goals in 55 starts across different age groups.
What was said?
Hudson-Odoi told Chelsea official website: “In the days of the academy, when you see numbers like that you are like ‘wow’ and you want to try to reproduce that in the first team too but of course it is a league to much harder and harder to achieve goals.
“You want to be that player who is feared by every team and where you have a target to aim or help the team in every game you play, to help the team so much. Yes, because it adds up at the end of the game. You score or help help the team to win so I look at it that way.
“If I can score one game and then maybe the next game I get help with and the next game goal again, it is helpful for all sides. I want to be one of those players you know who is consistently on the front page. ”
How has Hudson-Odoi fared?
A Stamford Bridge academy graduate broke on stage as a climber, with his speed and running just allowing him to slow down a steady career.
Injury problems have stalled progress since then, but Tuchel has found a way to bring obvious potential into his plans.
Hudson-Odoi has been successful in an unfamiliar role that seeks to influence events at all ends of the field.
He is pleased that that charge has made 25 appearances across all competitions this season, and he believes there are more to come.
“I feel especially playing as a backup or in a winger position, you want to get to the back post and get those tap-ins,” Hudson-Odoi said. “Every goal counts at the end of the day and whatever it is, you want to get on the scoreboard or get support and help the team so much.” where possible.
“I’ve told myself when I’m around the box, I want to be more clinical and tough, take my chances when they come and I hope to hit the back of the web more trice. The tap-ins are the best you can get at the back post on the blind side of the defender.
“I haven’t set myself a specific target but I will try to score what I can. It’s good to know that the players around us who are able to get the ball into the back post in addition to those tap-ins or find cuts or play passes are crucial to getting you into the goal.
“I have to make sure I keep going in those places to try and get a bullet away and hope that goes in the back of the net. ”
