Xiaomi Mi 10T Lite 5G – The new king of the mid-range market

Last September, when Shiomi announced the Mi 10T Lite 5G, there were probably few of us who were excited to hear about the new device. On paper, this is not a cross-border specification or a product with amazing features, although it can be noted that there are a number of features that have been assimilated into it and already on paper they are impressive. But nothing that will make us feel what we felt while using it.

Mi 10T Lite: Structure and display

The body of the device is built by Shiomi from a combination of glass and plastic, with the layers of gorilla glass 5 on the front and back, including the plastic frame between them. As part of this we can find a fingerprint scanner for opening the lock that works very quickly, buttons for adjusting the volume, a standard headphone jack, a speaker grill and a charging connector.

The screen comes in size 6.67 inches, With an IPS LCD panel, at a refresh rate of 120 Hz And Full HD + resolution spread over 2400 by 1080 pixels. The pixel density here stands at 395 pixels per inch, with the display ratio amounting to 20 by 9 for an almost cinematic ratio with support for displaying content in the HDR10 standard. At the top of the screen there is a small camera hole, which casts a shadow on the screen itself, but this does not particularly interfere with the user experience.

This is a screen that displays accurate and pleasing to the eye colors, along with being just the right brightness so we can use it comfortably in direct sunlight. The refresh rate is adaptive and adapts itself to use in order to save battery life, so that during use we will always get 120 Hz, but while watching the videos we will look at a refresh rate of 50 Hz and depending on the frame rate in the video the refresh rate will change. This technology Shiomi calls Smart AdaptiveSync, and it can not be turned off through the settings to always use 120 Hz, and we also see no reason to want to turn it off in the first place.

The back of the device offers a camera module in a rather strange structure, when Shiomi decided to place the four cameras on a circle made of milky plastic that includes the caption “Premium AI Camera / Built for 5GThe cameras themselves fit inside a glass module that extends inside the circular module into an obscure shape that contains the sensors, which is higher than the circular module which creates a small step between the layers. The design decision is unclear, but it is probably the company’s move to differentiate the device from other devices on the market.

The photography system – the technical specifications

If we dive into the details of the photo segment on the device, we will discover the following sensors:

Main sensor in resolution 64 megapixels (Sony IMX682), with f / 1.9 aperture key, focal length of 26 mm, sensor size of 1 / 1.73 inches, natural pixel size of 0.8 micrometers and autofocus support.

The secondary sensor in the array comes in resolution 8 megapixels (OmniVision ov8856), with f / 2.2 aperture key, 120-degree shooting angle, 1.12 micron pixel size and 1 / 4.0-inch sensor size.

The third sensor in the segment offers a resolution of 2 megapixels (OmniVision ov02b1b), which is designed for depth collection through the f / 2.4 aperture key.

The fourth and last sensor in part offers the same resolution of 2 megapixels (Hynix hi259), and its function is to take a depth shot from a distance of 4 cm through an f / 2.4 aperture key.

The selfie camera on the front of the smartphone comes with a resolution of 16 megapixels (OmniVision ov16a1q), which offers an aperture key of f / 2.5, a focal length of 25 mm, a pixel size of 1.0 micrometers and a sensor size of 1 / 3.06 inches.

Photography set – actual performance

The main sensor And the pixel-rich array produces decent images in good lighting conditions, with a wide dynamic range, realistic colors and an amount of detail that is not far behind from much more expensive devices. Admittedly, we would have been happy to see slightly better results in conditions where light and shadow contrast with each other and require access to a wider dynamic range.

In the transition to harsh lighting conditions, the main sensor continues to produce good results, but the amount of detail goes down in order to filter the digital noise that enters the frame in order to illuminate it. In order to balance detail and low noise, you can use the built-in night mode which naturally puts more light into the image and prevents the camera from bouncing the digital noise and erasing details from the image. In addition, the night mode also improves the dynamic range so that strong light sources appear better and more focused.

The secondary sensor Which comes in a resolution of 8 megapixels allows photography at a wide angle of 120 degrees, so from that we get access to photography at an angle that we would normally have to walk a few meters back for it. The camera does a very good job in bright lighting conditions, with a particularly nice level of detail and accurate colors, but we would have been happy to see a slightly wider dynamic range here as well to get more of the dark and bright parts.

In the transition to nightlife, here is a significant decrease in camera performance, so quite a bit of digital noise will enter the picture and quite a bit of details will be lost. However, the dedicated night mode of the device does kindness with this camera especially, and after using it we can get very good pictures, with quite a few details that return to the picture and would not have been seen before in auto mode shooting.

The third sensor The segment is the dedicated sensor for macro photography, and it allows us access to photograph small objects from a distance of 4 cm. Through this sensor you can produce quite interesting images in bright lighting conditions, but the level of detail is not very good so we would not build on it for everyday use. In dark lighting conditions the level of detail and overall image quality drops drastically, so in this situation we would not recommend using it at all.

The selfie camera The front end comes with a resolution of 16 megapixels, and it does a pretty good job in bright lighting conditions, with a nice amount of detail and maintaining accurate colors. When also in transition to less good lighting conditions, the camera retains a good amount of detail, but the colors could have enjoyed an improvement in the level of accuracy.

Multimedia, performance and battery

The multimedia part of most devices today usually omits one part of it completely, but thankfully the Mi 10T Lite is not like that, and it includes both a built-in headphone jack, and NFC support. Beyond that, this is a nice multimedia section, but one that needs a slight improvement. When making calls over a speaker we have encountered quite a few times that the other party had a hard time understanding what we were saying, so it may be a point problem in the microphone or a general problem, and either way, we would be happy to improve it so we can have calls without worry even in speaker mode.

However, the calls through the earpiece were excellent and heard sharply and clearly on both the hearing and desert sides, with the device’s built-in speakers being able to produce a fairly good volume that manages to satisfy us in everyday use. It should be noted that compared to other devices with a similar and even higher price tag, the sound coming from the speakers is cleaner and sharper, so we are pleasantly surprised by the sound quality depending on the price.

The performance of the device is based on the chipset Snapdragon 750G, Which is manufactured in an 8-nanometer process and includes a pair of powerful Kryo 570 cores at a maximum frequency of 2.2 GHz along with 6 cost-effective cores of the same type at a maximum frequency of 1.8 GHz. At the same time, the device uses 6 GB of LPDDR4X and 64 GB of memory or 128 GB of UFS 2.1 and UFS 2.2 storage in the 64 and 128 GB versions respectively.

Beyond writing on paper, the performance of the device is quite fast, when we did not encounter hiccups or crashes, but as befits an intermediate device, there were loading times of a second or two for certain applications. In addition, it seems that the working memory management is not good enough, this is due to the fact that quite a few applications that were opened very recently were already closed from the background when returned to them later and did not stay where they were. This is not particularly critical for most of us, but there is no doubt that we would be happy to see an improvement here.

The battery that runs the entire array comes in a capacity of 4820 mAh, Which supports fast charging at 33 watts through a USB Type-C connector. With the aforementioned fast charge you can get from 0 to 50 percent in just 30 minutes, but that is not the impressive part of this segment. The battery mentioned at the beginning showed exceptional results every day and every day we used it, when it did not happen to us even once that we needed a charger in the middle of the day.

Battery life held up excellently from the start of the day at 8 a.m. until the end of the day at 12 at night, with an average of 8 screen hours and 10 percent battery left for calm use until charging at the end of the day. Given the fact that this is an LCD screen that uses a high refresh rate of 120 Hz, these are commendable results that we do not get to see every day from both intermediate and much more expensive flagship devices.

The full loading table can be seen below:

time percentage Time gap
14:32 0 percent
14:37 10 percent 5 minutes
14:42 20 percent 5 minutes
14:46 30 percent 4 minutes
14:52 40 percent 6 minutes
14:58 50 percent 6 minutes
15:06 60 percent 8 minutes
15:15 70 percent 9 minutes
15:22 80 percent 7 minutes
15:30 90 percent 8 minutes
15:46 100 percent 16 minutes (total time – one hour and 14 minutes)

Shiomi’s user interface only added to the wonderful user experience on the device, as this is my first experience with theMIUI 12 And no doubt I would be happy to use it every day. The interface is clean and pleasing to the eye, with neat menus, balanced animations and convenient features like the ability to open any incoming alert to a floating and fast window that allows you to answer a call and return to the occupation we were in before. On the other hand, there is a bug that is currently in the photo interface (probably only in Hebrew), which prevents us from smoothly switching from 1x to 0.6x photography from the wide sensor, when clicking on each of the circles will bounce us to 2x and only another click will bring us to 0.6x.

Finally, as part of the name of the device is also found the 5G tag, which indicates support for surfing the fifth generation network. Similar to all other devices on the market, here too we got similar speeds of average download speeds of about 200 megabytes, and average upload speeds of 70 megabytes. We will also continue to emphasize that support for surfing the fifth generation network should not be seen as a reason to purchase a new device at the moment, but more as looking to the future where there will be a stable and wider deployment to the high-speed network.

Your questions about the Xiaomi Mi 10T Lite 5G

How comfortable is the device in the hand? (Weight, physical size, typos, etc.)

The device is very comfortable in the hand, but as one who has already used dozens of devices, I am not used to a specific one so I can tell how the device feels when switching to it from another specific device, but only in general. In this way, it is a body that has no problem holding in one hand, the weight is quite reasonable and I have not encountered any typos while using it.

Are the secondary cameras really useful?

No, unequivocally. I would give them up in favor of a zoom camera any day of the week (or a high-resolution macro camera).

Does the LCD screen feel inferior? Is he interfering?

No. On the contrary, I would be happy to get such an LCD screen compared to many devices that use other OLED / AMOLED screens and offer a much lower level of color accuracy and brightness.

The bottom line

The Xiaomi Mi 10T Lite 5G is the best intermediate device I have ever used, Both in its current price segment and up to a range of about NIS 2,000. With timeless battery life, a very good photo array, speakers that will not disappoint anyone, a bright screen with accurate colors at a high refresh rate and a headphone jack, there is no doubt that I would be happy to recommend the device to anyone looking for a new smartphone at this price tag.

I can not understand how Shiomi has managed to incorporate so many great features into a device with such a price tag, but there is no doubt that when combined all of them together, they make an excellent smartphone. If the price of the device was more expensive, I might have also expected to see water and dust resistance, but at this price, it is an intermediate device that comes to leave a mark over time.
