Women’s Basketball National Cup: Will the games take place in a bubble in Eilat?

The Basketball Association announced today (Wednesday) that its management has received a recommendation, from an organization committee headed by Nissim Ron, to hold the State Cup for Women in a bubble in Eilat. Last year the cup games were canceled due to the outbreak of the corona crisis, when activity in the industry was stopped a week before the games.

The goal is to hold a special event this year, different from any other year, in the southern city that has recently become a green island. The semi-finals, which are usually held on Monday, will be postponed to Tuesday, March 9 and the final will be held two days later, on Thursday the 11th. The intention is that the groups will arrive in Eilat on Monday together with the union’s staff, judges and other staff needed to hold the event, with everyone staying in one hotel that will become a closed bubble to prevent Corona.

The union added that talks had already taken place with the mayor of Eilat, Meir Yitzhak Halevi, who promised that the city would help as much as possible to hold the event in the most successful way.

A month ago, the draw for the early rounds of the cup was announced: The title holder for the 2018/19 season, Elitzur Ramla, will host the Herzliya girls when the winner between the two will meet Maccabi Raanana. Hapoel Rishon Lezion will play against Maccabi Ashdod for a ticket to the quarterfinals, where Maccabi Haifa is waiting. In addition, AS Ramat Hasharon will face Maccabi Ramat Gan and Hapoel Petah Tikva against Elitzur Holon.
