William McDowell-White signed for G League

The Houston Rockets signed 22-year-old William McDowell-White guard to a contract, ESPN’s Olgun Uluc reported Friday.

“This is expected to turn into a contract with Vipers Rio Grande Valley in the NBA G League, where McDowell-White will be looking to build on last year’s limited season,” Uluc tweeted. The Vipers are the Houston affiliated group for development purposes.

In 17 games with the Vipers, McDowell-White played a small role, averaging 3.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in 11.8 minutes per game. He also played on the 2019 2019 Houston Summer League squad.

McDowell-White was first signed by the Rockets after going unconditional in 2019. According to scouting reports, he is highly regarded for his size, passing and defensive ability. After being illegally ruled academically at Fresno State University, the Australian native spent the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons with Baunach in the second division in Germany.

A foot injury limited McDowell-White to just seven games in his last season abroad. In those games, he scored an average of 10.4 points, 5.0 assists, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.1 steals in 23.3 minutes.
