Will William and Harry’s relationship ever be repaired?

William was born King and his life is mapped accordingly. Harry had more choices. He had an unusual lifestyle, like the youngest brother of a future king. This was one that shaped the Queen’s relationship with the kinder Princess Margaret and, to a lesser extent, Charles’ more relaxed relationship with Andrew.

Diana was well aware that her two sons were on very different paths in their lives. Her greatest fear was that the gap between the heir and the shuttle would drive a space between them. She and Charles agreed that the two boys would be raised with a strong sense of responsibility and that Harry would never feel second. It was a particularly difficult goal to meet, especially since the Queen Mother would sometimes invite young William to quietly prepare tea for the future, with the exception of Harry.

The closest moment for the brothers together was when they shared a small hut near Clive, a few miles from Shawbury on the Welsh border, for several months. Harry was learning to fly a helicopter and William was training to be a rescue pilot at RAF Shawbury. Harry told me, when we were talking at Kensington Palace, how proud he was to be able to talk about “anything” with his brother, and said that he was “the only person who could to trust him. ”

Young William’s instincts were always to keep his brother close, having experienced the tragedy of losing their mother. In fact, they were the only people in each other ‘s lives who could know exactly what the other was up to.
