Carson Wentz moves to the Colts
The Philadelphia Eagles have agreed to trade Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts.
According to multiple reports, the quarterback is headed to Indianapolis in exchange for the 2021 selection in the third round as well as the 2022 conditional selection in the second round.
The agreement cannot be made official until the start of the 2021 NFL league year on March 17th.
Because of the contract that Wentz is carrying and bench after Week 13 in 2020, interest and offers may not be as intense as the Eagles expected.
The year of league 2021 is the start of Wentz’s new four-year, $ 128m contract extension with almost $ 70m pledged. The Eagles will include a $ 33m cap hit by Wentz trading before its expansion begins.
Wentz-based trade talks went to the Chicago Bears or Colts, but reportedly went against Chicago as a place to lie.
Wentz, 28, was the second pick in the 2016 Draft behind Jared Goff. The move means that the top two options from that year are now traded outside of this season.
The Eagles moved up in the Draft, taking away three top-100 picks as well as a first-round pick in 2017 and a second-round pick in 2018 to get a No. 2 pick and a Wentz pick.
As long as the deal goes through next month, Wentz would be in a position to hit the ground running with the Colts where head coach Frank Reich runs a system that has been altered from the Eagles ’offense. Reich was a quarterbacks coach during the Philadelphia Super Bowl run.
Reich was Wentz’s offensive coordinator in the 2017 season in which Wentz led Philadelphia to an 11-2 record while throwing for 33 city passes before suffering a season-end injury in December. Nick Foles piloted Philadelphia during the postseason and Super Bowl win over the New England Patriots. Foles is under contract with the Bears after an offseason trade last spring.

The Colts lost quarterback Philip Rivers to retire and are likely to have a different starting quarterback from 2018 (Andrew Luck, Jacoby Brissett, Rivers and Wentz).
Jalen Hurts is likely to slip in as the Eagles ’starting quarterback in 2021. Hurts went 1-3 as a starter last season, throwing for 1,061 yards, six touchdowns and four interactions while adding 354 rushing yards and three scores.
Wentz is set to become the 2020 starting third quarterback involved in an upcoming trade after the Lions and Rams agreed a deal that sent Matthew Stafford to Los Angeles and took Goff to Detroit.
