You would have to look a long way to find a Liverpool fan who sees Sami Hyypia as a better signing than Mohamed Salah but that is what Jamie Carragher believes.

The former Red has selected his former player as Liverpool’s best name in Premier League times, ahead of the likes of Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson and Luis Suarez.
Hyypia joined Liverpool from Willem II for £ 2.6million in 1999 and was at the club for ten years.
He played a major role in Liverpool ‘s treble winning season, which saw them lift the League Cup, FA Cup and UEFA Cup in 2001 and captain the club from 2002-03.
Many Kopites think of the Fin but he could never get Liverpool to win the Premier League, something Salah, Van Dijk and Robertson have done.

So why is Hyypia Liverpool signing the best since Premier League time?
Carragher explained: “This is not the best player, this is a pound for a pound.
“And the reason Hyypia is on that list is because when I think about where Liverpool were in 1999, they were a team finishing sixth and seventh in the league.
“That team was known as a weak team, they were bullied. He [Hyypia] he came in and over the next decade, he was never injured, and Liverpool went from a soft move to a team that was mentally and physically strong and was a big part of that.

“Our success with Gerard Houllier and Rafael Benitez was built on defense. It was built on solidity and that was built signed.
