The WhatsApp instant messaging app is expected to stop its support for millions of smartphones with an old operating system this coming Friday. These are iPhones that run an older version than iOS9, and Android devices that run an older version of Android than 4.0.3. This means that those users will no longer be able to open the popular widget unless they update their operating system.
These are the devices that will no longer be able to support WhatsApp starting January 1st:
- IPhone 1-4
- Samsung galaxy 2
- HTC Desire
- LG Optimus Black
- Motorola Droid Razr
- Any other Android device purchased before 2010
These are the devices that need to update their operating system in order to support WhatsApp:
- IPhone 4S
- IPhone 5
- IPhone 5S
- IPhone 6
- IPhone 6S
- Samsung Galaxy 3 and up
- Samsung Galaxy Note
- HTC Sensation
- HTC Thunderbolt
- LG Lucid
- Motorola Droid 4
- Sony Xperia Pro and up
