The WhatsApp messaging app announced today (Thursday, 4.3) that it is adding an option to make voice and video calls between users through the computer, similar to the option that has long been available in its phone apps. The announcement comes about three months after the company began exploring the possibility in beta versions of the app.

In the first phase, WhatsApp launches the option of audio and video calls on the computer in one-on-one calls only, but already at this stage the company announces that it will later add group calls, as long as it is visible so that it can provide competition for zoom and other applications that offer this option. The company states that the video calls will be adapted for viewing in the longitudinal and lateral mode, so that even if the users talk to other people who use the app on the phone from the other side, the image can be seen properly.

When making a call, WhatsApp will allow the call window to always stand above all other windows, so that it will not be lost if users make additional uses of the computer during the video call, and the company ensures that all audio and video calls are encrypted from end to end (end-to-end encryption). That the company will not be able to see or listen to them.
