One detail of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler ‘s relationship has burned into my mind. As they return to co-host the Golden Globes for the fourth time this Sunday night, February 28, consider this.
It was 2001, and Poehler was just starting at Saturday Night Live, where Fey was a leading writer and had been trying to hire her longtime friend for years. Fey remembers the memories Bossypants that the team and writers had gathered for the preparation and Poehler was joking around. Jimmy Fallon, who was one of the biggest stars of the show at the time, made a loud, sharp voice, and said to Poehler, “Stop that! It’s not nice! I don’t like it! ”
Poehler, Fey, remembers whistling around and spat, “I don’t fucking care if you like. “
Fey went elated. “I remember thinking, ‘My friend is here! My friend is here! ”She writes. “Amy made it clear she wasn’t there to be quiet. She was there for what she wanted to do and she wasn’t fucking care if you like. ”
I think a lot of us feel, every time we see Tina Fey and Amy Poehler together, “My friends are here! My friends are here! “Just watching them appear on stairs seems to cause an increase in serotonin. Their comedy is so popular, but they also represent something really big. They are funny, creative women who don’t just take the chair of the boys’ club but create more space for each other. The return as co-guests of the Golden Globes comes when we miss them. We need our friends, even meaningful celeb friends, more than ever.
Also important: The Golden Globes are, infamously, the most drunk awards show. We love the Oscars’ luxe bribe, the Grammys’ strength, the Billboard Music Awards’ lower key drama. But at the Golden Globes, which kicks off the awards season, celebs come together for a long, booze – filled dinner party that, fortunately for us, takes place on television. And when we are very lucky, Tina and Amy roast them.
I mean…Emily in Paris mentioned. Olivia Colman is up for prizes in several categories. Hamilton there is some way in the mix. Don’t you want to see what our girls are going to say? Or, perhaps, rap?

I have not seen a group of people who were intimidated by this when two women were just standing in front of a room since my history teachers in the US examined the AP exam. This complete opener is perfect – it doesn’t matter what the humor is about The Hunger Games and Les Miserables, they are as funny now as they were then, when we were all young and innocent. The play! Against the stroke! It’s a real pleasure. And are it bad women to say that Tina’s hair looks so beautiful I salted it? Can I admit that?
Now, this is where some essential drama happens that I would be interested, personally, to see studied with a PhD dissertation gender study. The CNN The clip below covers Fey’s joke about Taylor Swift at the Globes, and Swift’s response two months later, in a Vanity Fair interview. On the one hand, Swift was only in his early twenties and dealing with persistent sexuality in the media and from the public. On the other hand, who does it mean that Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are going to hell? Who does that ??
