According to information from Apple, YouTube drops support for some Apple TV in early March. Users can still watch videos from a high-end Apple device via AirPlay, but you won’t be able to use their own YouTube channel on third – generation Apple TVs from 2012.
Newer Apple TV devices, such as the Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K, will still support YouTube. These models run tvOS, which is a modified version of iOS. That means they can run many of the same media apps that your iPhone can. But the old Apple TV used proprietary “channels” that had to be made specifically for these models. YouTube has already attracted support for the first and second generations of Apple TV, so it was only a matter of time before gen got nixed, too.
We would like to offer an approach to those affected, but so far we have not seen one. That leaves the owners of old Apple TV with two options for watching YouTube on their TVs. The first one uses AirPlay to watch on YouTube. Overlooking AirPlay is a small step further, but an additional step nonetheless. And you need a compatible iPad or iPhone to throw it away.
The alternative is even smaller great: S.wizard to a different device when you want to watch YouTube. You may already have a viable option, such as a smart TV or game console like the PlayStation 4 and 5, or the Xbox One, Series X, or Series S..
Plus, it may be time to update an old Apple TV. And if you do, you have a number of options. It is the best update for Apple TV users the latest Apple TV HD or Apple TV 4K. The Apple TV 4K is the most powerful choice, but the Apple TV HD is still a good choice for those who don’t have a 4K TV. Either you feel like a big upgrade if you move on from an older Apple TV box.
