What to buy at Steam Winter Fair

Now that Steam servers have recovered from the horrific array of bargain hunters that arrived when the Steam Winter Fair began last night, we can take a look at what ‘s worth buying. At RPS we usually make a big batch of suggestions from the whole group, but everyone else has gone off for the year so it’s just me and my opinions. Probably the best RPS recommendations ever, I would think.

For your budget convenience, I have ordered suggestions by price.

Vacancy – £ 1.56 / € 1.67 / $ 2.00 (33% off)

While That was well into Post Void, I never got to try the FPS which she called “a masterpiece of critical movement and hypnotic, irresistible sounds.” It wasn’t expensive in the first place but now it’s not that big. So I bought it.

Dépanneur Nocturne – £ 1.59 / € 1.59 / $ 1.99 (60% off)

On a rainy night, head into a Quebecois corner shop to find the perfect gift for someone waiting to return home. A small first-person shooter gameplay with plenty to talk about and talk about with the shopkeeper. Plenty of mystery to discover too. I kept posting sense about this but I never did and I am sorry for that.

Devil’s Daggers – £ 1.99 / € 1.99 / $ 2.49 (50% off)

The FPS killer score attack area remains one of the best and brightest games.

Great Ocean Jacket – £ 2.31 / € 2.63 / $ 3.19 (60% off)

A niece, nephew, and special friend go on a camping trip in his hilarious story from the makers of Little Party. It’s a slice of life, a weekend where nothing big can happen but people grow. Also, Mort is an incredibly funny force.

Stories From Off-Peak City Vol. 1 – £ 3.59 / € 4.09 / $ 4.99 (50% off)

Oh what is this, another weird exploration game suggestion from Alice? There is. But also! Offate Peak City was very pleased with our Nate, which usually keeps an eye on anything that doesn’t involve orcs or spearmen. It won a place on our coming calendar this year.

American Truck Simulator – £ 3.74 / € 4.99 / $ 4.99 (75% off)

When in doubt, keep on truckin ‘. The old extensions that add additional states are also sold, with the older ones at 70% off.

Yakuza 0 – £ 3.74 / € 4.99 / $ 49.99 (75% off)

It’s hard to believe that £ 4 could be so much fun. Sega’s RPG brawler prequel features two of the best boys in the game, two punts with golden hearts that will help sad kids one minute then eliminate your thugs by turning a bike the next minute. Yakuza 0 goes hard on all sides, taking goofy sides as badly as crime drama. God, what a game.

Doom – £ 4.49 / € 5.99 / $ 5.99 (70% off)

Honestly, I had skipped the remnants of Id Software doing a good FPS again. Whew!

Ridire Hollow – £ 5.49 / € 7.49 / $ 7.49 (50% off)

I haven’t played it myself, but everyone I know who likes it so maybe it’s good. This is a recommendation on behalf of Imogen, I believe.

Infra – £ 5.94 / € 6.99 / $ 7.49 (75% off)

A first-person explorer-o-puzzler based in a European city on the brink of disaster. So maybe we’re kind of a supercop that saves the day with gunmurders, right? No companions, we are an infrastructure analyst deployed to study riverside bridges and dams, capture images of code-breakers and solve machine puzzles. At times it feels like Deus Ex is a first-person puzzle game? And sometimes it feels like… I’m not even sure. He was actually surprised and delighted by this, a few rough sections and too long on either side. I don’t know of any other game that opens with us providing a Powerpoint presentation. And for fans of the Source Engine, oh boy is the Sourceiest-lookin ‘Source game that Source has ever made.

Stardew Valley – £ 7.36 / € 9.37 / $ 9.99 (33% off)

Christmas at a distance? Do it in Stardew multiplayer. I just got a big upgrade adding a beach farm there too.

In other waters – £ 7.63 / € 8.36 / $ 10.04 (33% off)

Exploring an alien sea is right up my street, and Alice Bee’s review brings this into my basket.

Deus Ex Collection – £ 7.79 / € 10.60 / $ 10.60 (88% off)

That’s Deus Ex, all games and all extensions, for £ 8. They’re also discounted separately but harmful, £ 8.

Slay The Spire – £ 9.74 / € 10.49 / $ 12.49 (50% off)

We have a lot of deck building roguelikelikes around these days, but this is my favorite. The funny and exciting world for fantasy (ohhh!) And the cards give a strong sense of playing as a man. The decisions about building a run are a very enjoyable process. It’s good.

Cloudpunk – £ 11.38 / € 13.39 / $ 13.39 (33% off)

The base of a cyberfuture delivery package in this flying car got on my wish list, and a first-person mode was recently added into my basket.

Paradise Killer – £ 11.61 / € 12.59 / $ 14.99 (25% off)

Enter a failed paradise to solve a murder and learn about the strange hardships he endures. It’s not a big discount but hell, the game hadn’t even been out four months. While I die a little bit every time we say “Nani the fuck?”, I’m a sleeper for a game that allows me to shed my own blood on a shrine.

Wilds out – £ 11.69 / € 12.59 / $ 14.99 (40% off)

Another mystery to solve! Only this one is located over a small solar system running on a 22-minute schedule. It’s wonderful to choose at its many sci-fi mysteries, and I like that it all runs on depressing and smug scenes that sometimes feel punishing. It’s like being inside a bunch of Star Trek TNG programs, just all nice.

Strength of Heaven – £ 11.99 / € 13.19 / $ 14.99 (40% off)

Another mystery! This one is solved through words, unraveling the mysteries of ancient civilizations by learning a language as you travel through the stars. Great.

Monster Train – £ 13.64 / € 14.69 / $ 17.49 (30% off)

This is my second favorite roguelikelike recently built. Imogen and James also liked Monster Train enough to make room for it on the upcoming RPS calendar.

Hades – £ 15.59 / € 16.79 / $ 19.99 (20% off)

It’s not a big discount, but how else can you understand the horny memes your friends are posting? The roguelikelike slap game hack ‘n’ slash from Bastion and Pyre Supergiant devs is pretty cuffing as well.

Halo: Main Collection – £ 17.99 / € 23.99 / $ 23.99

Who is this Chief Chef who has been so happy with Xboxeers for so many years? You’ll find in this huge package of PC rereleases, minus Halo 5 cos Microsoft is trying their best to pretend it never happened. I never played Halo: Reach so I never learned the secrets of his cookie cookies and maybe get a grip on them now. The games are on Game Pass, mind you, so you could just check out over a month or two of that for cheaper.

Crusader Kings 3 – £ 33.59 / € 39.99 / $ 39.99 (20% off)

Discounts aren’t huge but it’s Crusader Kings, baby! This one is on Game Pass as well, but it’s a game you could play for years. Since Paradox tends to overwhelm and extend games in updates, it could become quite different (and better!) Across the aeons.

Half-Life: Alyx – £ 34.86 / € 37.49 / $ 44.99 (25% off)

If you can afford a VR headset, do you need discounts on VR games? Yes, because you are saving up to buy Cybershoes.

I’m sure you have some suggestions too, dear reader – what games and discounts do you want to celebrate?
