What the Irishman has to say about it

Conor McGregor wants to settle his rivalry with Nate Diaz in a trilogy fight in the light division and said he would like to see a title on the line as well.

After fighting each other twice, Diaz and McGregor are tied with one win each. Over the years, many have been thinking about fighting a trilogy resolving a conflict between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz but nothing has come to fruition yet.

However, now that Dana White has announced that Diaz will return to the UFC in 2021 as a lightweight, there is more to Conor McGregor in making the trilogy fight happen. Speaking to The Mac Life recently, McGregor said he would like to be the first to welcome Diaz back to the octagon if he is at 155lbs.

McGregor also said he would be happy if he could fight Nate with the lightweight title on the line.

“I would like to compete against Diaz. We will compete again. If it happens at a light weight for a title, that would be something special, too. I think if it’s going to come down to 155, it should come down so I can be honest with you. Nate shows up, steps up and fights. It’s not necessarily that I feel like he’s fighting at 155 against another competitor. I feel like maybe it should be me and Nate. If he’s going to do 155, we could do that for the belt. “McGregor said.

Conor McGregor-Nate Diaz Conflict

Nate Diaz vs. Conor McGregor must be one of the worst contestants in UFC history. The pair of McGregor and Diaz fought each other at UFC 196 and UFC 202 in a pair of grudge matches that caught the attention of fighting fans across the globe. So far, Diaz vs McGregor remains one of the most talked about fights.

The controversy began when Diaz McGregor called out after a win over Michael Johnson at the UFC on Fox 17 in Orlando, Florida. Diaz’s famous rant accusing the Irishman of giving everything he works caught McGregor’s attention, but the fight has yet to come to fruition.

However, the final matchup came when Rafael dos Anjos pulled out of a lightweight title fight against Conor McGregor. Nate Diaz was a game to take the fight forward without warning, but at 170lbs, which was a stress class they weren’t familiar with for McGregor back then. At UFC 196, Diaz moved the world by putting McGregor in the second round.

The featherweight champion Conor McGregor then called for an immediate relegation and received the bullet at a replay five months later at UFC 202. This time, the fight went at speed and the two fighters left it all within the octagon in a 25-minute-long slugfest. However, it was the Irishman who won by a majority decision, seeking revenge for the loss he had suffered earlier.

While McGregor is looking forward to the trilogy fight against Diaz, he must first deal with another enemy in Dustin Poirier. McGregor and Poirier are ready to fight each other in the UFC 257 main event on January 23rd.

If Conor McGregor is able to pick up the win against Poirier, he may be reserved to fight Diaz for the lightweight white title.
