“What do you not understand?”: Tuchel boiled over Werner

Beginning of an article

Timo Werner arrived at Chelsea last summer to great acclaim. The German striker, who punctured nets in the Leipzig uniform, was bought for 53 million euros and the new club hoped to find a serious scorer for the coming years. So far, Werner has scored just five Premier League goals (along with 8 assists) in 27 games – an average of a goal every 405 minutes.

Despite last night’s expensive win (Monday) against Everton that established the team in the top 4, some of the headlines in England were actually about Thomas Tuchel’s criticism of Werner. With 26 minutes played, the visitors broke through on the right after some poor defending. Since there is no crowd, one could clearly hear Tuchel’s shouts in the direction of our player: “Timo, how long will you play on the left side? You are playing on the right! You have been playing on the left for a quarter of an hour, what do you not understand?”.

Apparently Tuchel’s screams helped, when after just five minutes Chelsea took the lead from Ben Godfrey’s own goal, following a kick from Kai Habertz. Werner himself came up with a number of chances in the game, but was stopped time and time again by Jordan Pickford. Werner was eventually substituted in the 90th minute and received a hot handshake from Tuchel.
