West Indies, Sri Lanka are looking to open an account in CWC Super League

After closing out the three-game (2-1) T20I Series against Sri Lanka at home, the West Indies will now move their attention to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League.

The road to qualifying for the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup is not easy for the West Indies. They are languishing at the bottom of the Super League table, still waiting to open their account. They have three losses in three games, after suffering a big loss against Bangladesh in January this year.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, are looking forward to playing their first game in the Super League.

The T20Is were closely linked with the guests winning the final game by a narrow margin to take the 2-1 series. With the move in their favor, along with the benefit of the home, it seems they are in the driver’s seat for now.

They can get inspiration from their captain Kieron Pollard, who is in flame form with the bat after beating Akila Dananjaya for six in the first game.

Remember last time:

February 2020 was the last time the West Indies and Sri Lanka went up against each other in ODIs with the Lankans beating West Indies 3-0. The Windies came close to winning twice in that series but lost the first game by just one wicket (with five balls remaining) and the last by just six runs.

The memories will still be fresh from that trip and the West Indies would look to make amends. Another troubling fact for the guests is their recent ODI record. They have lost their last six ODIs, their last win in the form coming in January 2020 against Ireland.

What they said:

Kieron Pollard, captain of the West Indies: “As a team we have to start winning cricket matches, winning a series. Because we can go down the line saying ‘we need to bleed this talent, this blood’, but some of your same guys will start talk about the results as well. “
