Watford’s decision to fire Ivica

Imagine a situation where your team coach is chosen as the coach of the month, leading the team a touch away from the places from which the league rises, but a week later he is unexpectedly fired. For Watford fans, this is exactly what happened with ex-Maccabi Tel Aviv Vladimir Ivitch.

The Wasp management announced yesterday (Saturday), a few hours after the 2-0 loss to Huddersfield, that the Serb and all the team that came with him to the club were fired.

In England this morning they are trying to analyze the reasons for Ivitch’s dismissal. The Athletic reported that owner Gino Pozzo, chairman Scott Doxbury and technical director Cristiano Giaretta were present at John Smith Stadium yesterday and could no longer see Watford’s dull style of play.

The loss was the last reason for the dismissals, but more the way the team plays and does not realize the potential of its offensive players. The Watford captains can be understood in some way because after 20 games their team has scored only 23 goals, the fewest (along with Swansea) of the top seven teams in the Championship.

Also, the fact that Ivica surprisingly chose not to share the captain and Watford star, Troy Dini, constituted a warning sign, and especially the Serbian’s reference to his decision at the end of the game: “Troy did not participate for disciplinary reasons.” The Watford management knew exactly which side they wanted to be on, that of the striker who has been playing for the team for a decade and is considered its great symbol.

The general feeling is that another offensive-oriented coach could spend more than Watford’s existing squad. Who will it be? It is not yet clear and could very well be that Corona’s restrictions in England will cause the next coach to stand on the lines to be someone local and not a foreign professional.

By the way, Ivica is the tenth coach in the last five years to be sacked from Watford, so the light hand on the trigger has already become a hallmark of Wasp management.
