Watch Julien Baker’s stop video for new single ‘Hardline’

Julien Baker has shared a new journey with his own stop-motion video – check out ‘Hardline’ below.

The new song is the opening album of boygenius’ third album ‘Little Oblivions’, due out next month via Matador.

“A few years ago I started collecting travel snapshots again with a loose idea of making a piece of art with it,” Baker explained of the new video in a statement. “I had been touring very regularly since 2015 and had traveled so much that there weren’t many new things in plane tickets and hotel keyboards.

“So I saved all my travel supplies and made a small collage of a house and van out of it. I wanted to include it in the album and while discussing ideas for videos we came across Joe Baughman and he really enjoyed his work so we came up with the idea of being making a stop-motion video that had elegant effects similar to the house I built with us.

“I don’t know why I’m forced to write songs or make tiny images out of plane tickets. But here it is anyway: a handful of things I collected and took with me that I have reorganized into a new format. ”

Video director Joe Baughman said: “Man, even after immersing 600 hours in ‘Hardline’ and listening to it thousands of times, I’m still moved by it. Creating something that could go along with such a strong song was a fun and ambitious challenge.

“The design style of the set, inspired by sculptures created by Julien, was particularly fun to work with. I enjoyed sifting through magazines, maps, and newspapers from the 60s and 70s and finding the right colors, shapes, and values to cover. almost every surface in the video. ”

In addition to the new album and video, Baker has also shared a new KEXP session, where she will be seen performing tracks from the new album with a full band. Look at that below.

Last week, Baker recently released his first live album ‘Faith Healer’, playing on The late show with Stephen Colbert with a recorded rendition at the Exit / In center in Nashville.

‘Little Oblivions’ arrives on February 26, and follows on from Baker’s 2017 full-length album ‘Turn Out the Lights’.
