Vietnam launches Covid vax campaign

Hanoi, Vietnam (March 8) (IANS) on Monday launched their major Covid-19 vaccine campaign, considered the largest in the country’s history, with more than 100 million doses expected to be administered worldwide of the country.

According to the Ministry of Health, the first dose of the AstraZeneca Covid vaccine was given at 8 a.m. to health workers treating infectious patients directly in the capital Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Hai Duong province, at Xinhua news agency reported.

In a statement, the Ministry said vaccination is an important, effective, proactive and necessary step in the Covid-19 pandemic prevention process, and a priority for the government to bring life back to normal.

In the coming days, vaccination will begin in cities and other areas hit by the latest wave of pandemic.

It targets people working on the front line against pandemics such as health workers, staff at quarantine facilities as well as communications detection teams, the police and national defense forces.

Vietnam received the first batch of 117,600 doses of Covid-19 vaccine from the British company on 24 February.

As of Monday morning, the country has recorded 2,512 cases of coronavirus and 35 deaths.
