Digital Foundry was loaded with next generation analysis at the end of last year, but now that things have slowed down it is finally returns to Nintendo Switch. In his latest video, John Linneman takes a look at Panic Button ‘s tune DOOM Eternal.
So what is it like? It is defined as technical performance and hard turn – with everything completely intact.
“I believe that Eternal Doom on Switch is a very good version … this is definitely an amazing translation of one of the most technologically advanced engines on the market.”
“This is clearly some of the best work Panic Button has done yet.”
In terms of resolution in dock mode, the game “maxes out” at 720p and dips just under 540p when charged. On the other hand, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus it went as low as 360p. While portable, DOOM Eternal ranges from 612p to 360c.
As for frame rate – the target is 30fps, and for most parts, DOOM Eternal on Switch manages to keep this in docked mode.
In a handheld, the average performance is “somewhat comparable” to a dock, but some frame packaging issues were obvious. Cutscenes are also limited to 20fps and Switch has a letterbox.
