Vaccines will be offered to people over 50 by May, Matt Hancock confirms

M.att Hancock has confirmed that the Government hopes to vaccinate people over the age of 50 by early May.

The Health Secretary said the plan was for everyone over 50 to “get a vaccine offer by May”, although he was stressed that he was dependent on the supply of the vaccine.

“My plan is that we should be able to offer vaccinations to everyone in categories one to nine – those are those over 50 – by May.”

“A lot of things need to go right to achieve that goal, particularly provision, which is a limiting factor, but I’m sure, working with the NHS and everyone else who To achieve this, if we continue as fast as we can, we can ensure that everyone over the age of 50 can be offered the vaccine by May. “

It follows a chaotic day, in which Downing Street said a cabinet office press release confirming local elections was held on May 6, due to “confidence” that groups of one to nine would be vaccinated by then, let alone if released “in error” and has been removed.

However, a few minutes later the Number 10 said the information was correct.

“We have confirmed today that the elections must go ahead,” said the Cabinet Office document. “

Speaking at their regular press release, the Welsh Government confirmed that May is also their target. Education Minister Kirsty Williams said the Welsh Government was “on track” with these plans.

Mark Harper, chairman of the gray-green Covid Recovery Group (CRG), said it would be “almost impossible” to maintain justification for restrictions beyond this point.

It comes as the UK Government strikes a new contract with German drug company CureVac for 50m doses of a vaccine designed to influence future changes.
