Vacation for the vaccinated: contacts between Israel and Greece

While the airport is closed and the tourism and aviation industry has suffered the hardest blow ever, a tourism agreement is being formed between Israel and Greece. According to the details we have, this is an unprecedented agreement that will apply mainly to the vaccinated population in the country.

Currently, it appears that the agreement, if signed, will be implemented in the spring months, shortly after Pesach, in the hope that a significant portion of the Israeli population will be vaccinated. It is not clear whether this is a bilateral agreement that will allow Greek tourists to enter Israel, tourists who in any case, even in the period before Corona, did not constitute a significant part of the number of tourists coming to Israel.

In parallel with the emerging agreement, there are other countries that want to allow vaccinated tourists to enter their territory. The one who has already stated that it will do so is Cyprus. According to the authorities, the state is expected to allow the vaccinated to enter its territory as early as March this year.

Romania has also announced that it will allow vaccinated people to enter the country without the need for isolation and also in Seychelles, already allow vaccinated people to enter the country and rest without the need for isolation. As mentioned, there are quite a few other countries that are interested in similar agreements, and as the number of vaccinated people in Israel increases and the vaccines prove their effectiveness, the number of countries that are interested in the Israeli tourist is expected to increase.

The said airport is still closed, and it is estimated that the situation will remain this way for at least the next two weeks, if there are no surprises. The Ministry of Health fears the import of mutations from abroad, and at the same time thousands of Israelis are trying to return home without success and without any solution that provides a broad response from the state.

Nir Mazor, VP of Marketing for Aviation Relations, said: “The agreement being formed with Greece is good news for the tourism industry and an important incentive to encourage immunization. This is a popular destination among Israelis. We believe that just as in the summer, when the skies opened up to Greece, demand was high, so now many Israelis will also ask to book vacations and we are prepared to market attractive packages, subject to the procedures of the Ministry of Health and the Green Passport. ”
