Uniqlo lands with a Mona Lisa T-shirt treat to the Louvre

TOKYO – The Louvre has agreed to enter into a four-year collaboration deal with Uniqlo, with Japanese chain T-shirts to showcase the Mona Lisa and other masterpieces housed in the Paris museum.

The T-shirts will go on sale Feb. 5 at selected Uniqlo locations in Japan and online, the Japanese clothing retailer said Friday. They will be sold under the UT brand, a Uniqlo label for collaborative graphic prints with license holders.

There will be six designs for men and six for women. The men’s line-up showcases the “art and logic” motor developed by renowned British graphic designer Peter Saville. The women’s collection is inspired by works of art depicting women, such as the Venus de Milo.

Each T-shirt will be priced at 1,500 yen ($ 14), with sweatshirts and hoodies added to the mix. The sacrifices will also be available in overseas markets.

As part of the multi-east partnership, Uniqlo will take over as sponsor of Louvre’s Free Saturday Nights program, which takes place on the first Saturday of each month. Uniqlo also supports the Mini-Discovery Tour, which is a guided, family-focused educational tour.

“We hope that our partnership with the museum can enable so many people to experience and experience the universal beauty of the great works in its collection,” said Tadashi Yanai, Uniqlo Fast Retailing’s parent chairman and president.
