The UK government is developing a new diagnostic technology that would identify changes of concern in Covid-19 positive test samples, and provide faster results.

The “genotype assay test” would take half the time it takes to identify the variables and could be used in addition to routine tests to find cases more quickly, the UK government’s health ministry said in recited Monday.

The government’s roadmap to prevent lock-out calls for control of the new lines. Once the variables are identified, compliance testing, improved communication detection and other actions can be taken to suppress the spread.

“The progress made to date in developing these new genotype assessments is very encouraging and I am confident that we will see positive results from piloting this technology,” said Health Minister Lord Bethell. “Using this test to identify a range of identified issues of concern has the potential to accelerate our knowledge and understanding of a range of concerns and stop them spreading across the country. ”

The technology could be used to track the biggest variables of concern, even as new mutations are identified, the ministry said.
