UK coronavirus cases highest 20,00,000

London [UK], December 19 (ANI / Xinhua): The number of coronavirus cases in Britain has exceeded 2,000,000 as another 27,052 new cases have been confirmed, according to official figures released on Saturday.

The total number of coronavirus cases in Britain now stands at 2,004,219, the data showed.

Coronavirus-related deaths in Britain rose by 534 to 67,075, according to the figures.

The numbers came when British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced a new Series Four of coronavirus restrictions for London and elsewhere in England to counter a horrific attack in diseases linked to a new wild species.

London mayor Sadiq Kahn called the new restrictions a “bitter blow” to those who want to be with families at Christmas and to businesses already under pressure, but called on the people of London to pull together to ride over the emergency.

“These other limitations are a bitter blow. We have the toughest city since the war – and we must all come together to see us through this terrible time,” he said on Twitter.

From Sunday morning, London, the South East and the east of England will move into Tier Four restrictions, which will be broadly similar to national restrictions introduced in England in November, he announced. Johnson Saturday at a groundbreaking press conference at Downing Street.

Under the strictest new measures, residents in these areas have to stay at home, with few exemptions. People are also urged to work from home whenever they can, and should not enter or leave four levels.

At the same time, non-essential outlets and indoor gyms will have to close, Johnson said. The restrictions will last for two weeks and will be reviewed on Dec. 30, Johnson said. (ANI / Xinhua)
