It seems that Xavi Alonso’s first chance as a senior coach will have to wait. After it was reported in Bild yesterday that the decorated former midfielder will be appointed Borussia Mönchengladbach coach in place of Marco Rosa, today (Tuesday) it was reported in Kicker that although talks have been held between the parties, Alonso is not expected to accept the position.
As you know, Gladbach is looking for a new coach to replace Rosa, who will move to Borussia Mönchengladbach at the end of the season. The professional manager of the foals, Max Eberl, Quoted: “The road has been very intense in recent weeks, there have been a lot of good talks and we are on the right track. We had a selection of candidates, we focused on a few and we have a clear plan.”
Alonso retired from active play four years ago after winning almost every possible title in his career. In his title closet you can find two Champions League wins (with Liverpool and Real Madrid), three German championships, a Spanish championship and of course two Euro wins and one World Cup win. Lottie, Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola.
So far, Alonso has coached Real Madrid’s youth team and Real Sociedad B, the club’s reserve team currently playing in the Spanish third division, and it seems only a matter of time before he gets the chance in the senior team.
