Democrats are moving to remove Marjorie Taylor Greene from committee assignments after a Republican took control.
Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives are moving forward with a vote Thursday to remove Republican Congressman Marjorie Taylor Greene from her committee assignments.
Democratic Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said Wednesday that Greene’s actions on social media, which included a suggestion that Speaker Nancy Pelosi should be executed, were inappropriate.
“She came to Congress with extremely hostile astronomy and hostile actions,” Hoyer told reporters.
“Her work at Congress has been consistent and has intimidated many members for their welfare.”
Democrats have called for Greene to be ousted from Congress amid higher tensions following a deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 by supporters of former U.S. President Donald Trump, who was taken entered the House for his role in inciting the uprising.
House Republicans met behind closed doors for hours on Wednesday night to discuss whether Greene should be asked to apologize or ignore the House’s education and budget committees.
Greene, who has supported QAnon’s conspiracy theory, declined to apologize for her social media posts and said she raised $ 1.6m in small donations from donors across the country.
Democrats have said they fear she will use her committee positions to issue a new inflammatory statement and raise money from supporters.
The House vote on Thursday would overcome those assumptions.
“She’s raising money from this stuff as we speak,” said Rep. James McGovern, a prominent Democrat.
Personally, I think she should retire. I don’t think it’s appropriate to serve in this institution. “
Greene slaps Republican leaders
Greene appeared on a podcast Wednesday with Conservative reporter Dinesh D’Souza denying that she made references on social media that she is accused of calling Republican leaders “weak” for not protection.
“It is this grave sin that I am crucifying for in the public square for reading about things, posting about them and asking questions on Facebook in 2018. And they are embarrassed that I should… exercise my freedom of speech, “Green said.
“And our Republican leaders are too weak to stand up to him.”
Prior to being selected for Congress, Greene was a moderator on the Facebook page of a right-wing group called the Family America Project.
The page provided a forum for death threats against Democrats, major attacks on former President Barack Obama and conspiracy theories, according to a report by U.S. news magazine Mother Jones.
Greene last week removed dozens of Facebook posts from 2018 and 2019 in which she supported fringe conspiracy theories and expressed support for the implementation of prominent Democrat politicians, the CNN broadcaster reported also.
Most of them have not even condemned her statements or apologized. Maybe they share her beliefs.
I have served the @EdLaborCmte for 2 years now, I can tell you that a majority of Republicans on the committee did not support our efforts to stop school burning and make it safe for children. https://t.co/Am6obphXty

Republicans on Wednesday complained that most Democrats were unfairly using their control of the House to punish Greene, but most refused to publicly defend her social media statement.
“I find her comments very offensive, retaliatory and not coming to any member of Congress,” said Rep. Tom Cole, the Republican senior on the House Rules Committee.
