Tyson Fury supports Conor McGregor in the next fight against Dustin Poirier as ‘Gypsy King’ admits he is inactive himself which is not particularly suitable for Anthony Joshua

Tyson Fury has backed Conor McGregor’s successful return to the UFC eight-legged and is urging the Irishman to ‘succeed under pressure’.

‘The Notorious’ ended its 12-month absence from mixed martial arts at UFC 257 on Fight Island last month, but Dustin Poirier definitely stopped it.

Despite showing scenes of his undoubted quality, McGregor looked slower than fans could remember and was cut down by several debilitating calf bruises.

After admitting in the post-fight interview that inaction was as much an issue as the kicks themselves, the former two-weight world champion has been immediately relegated by ‘The Diamond’ .

Before that trilogy is decided, Fury wants it to be a very important act for the 32-year-old’s chances.

“Of course it is,” he told ESPN. “Because he’s been in the ring now.

“He’s been active, he’s got that training camp and he’ll have another training camp. So a little more activity.

“I think he will gain focus and do what he has to do in the ring. When the make-or-break fight is over, this one will be, this is the icing on the cake.

“If he loses this man, where will he go from there?” But if he wins, he’s back there.

“I think it thrives under such pressure. As long as he gets a good training camp, he should do well. ”

Fury is acutely aware of the danger of staying out of the ring himself after nearly three years to overcome depression after winning over Wladimir Klitschko in 2015.

The ‘Gypsy King’ has fought six times since then and captured WBC’s heavyweight competition against Deontay Wilder in February 2020. However, this was his last sight in the ring while talks between himself and Anthony Joshua continue.

In the same interview, Fury admitted that his own activity is far from perfect before the fight that will solidify his legacy in the sport.

“They have had a year to try and bring this fight to fruition. Yes. We are no later today than we were a year ago, ”he continued.

“As it is now [with COVID-19], I don’t think it has much to do with the cheats. It relates to the location, date, location, site fees. It is related to everything but the fight itself.

“I should be in a box, because I’ve been so inactive,” Fury said. “By the time I fight again, look at maybe in June if this Joshua fight happens, that will be a year and six months out of the ring, which is not a good preparation for a superb any fight.

“If that fight [against Joshua] it won’t happen in the summer, it has to happen fast or slow. ”
