Twitter Inc is testing a “send” action that would give users a short time to withdraw a tweet before it is posted, the company confirmed on Friday.

App researcher Jane Manchun Wong, who detects social media features without warning by looking at the site code, tweeted an animation showing a tweet with a spelling error where an ‘undo’ button was available before your run timer short out.

A spokesman on Twitter said this feature was being tested as part of the company’s study into how memberships could work on the platform. She said Twitter would test and replicate paid features that may exist over time.

Twitter has said it is working on paid membership models, which would reduce its reliance on advertising revenue, including a “super follow” feature to allow users to charge their followers for exclusive content to be launched this year.

Chief Executive Jack Dorsey has previously said that the site may never have an “edit button”, a feature that users have long been looking for.

But Twitter has been making more promises as users post tweets as asking if they want to read an article before sharing it, and trying to let people review a tweet response before publishing if it uses harmful language.

The company reportedly introduced a “undo send” feature that could be included in a user survey last year asking what features people would want to have available through a membership model.
