The man and the old man finished the game with a triple-double of 32 points, 12 rebounds and no less than 14 assists – on his way to being the first to finish with the triple figure and over 30 points in a debut game in NBA history.
Harden is also the seventh overall in history to record a triple-double in his team debut, preceded by Alfred Peyton, Lewis Lloyd, John Shumite, Nate Thurmond, Oscar Robertson and Russell Westbrook.
Even Kevin Durant, who continues his smooth return to the league from injury, did not bury his hand on the plate with 42 points (along with 4 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals and even 2 blocks). Joe Harris added 17 and Jeff Green scored 10. The third rib, Kyrie Irving, has yet to play since he is in isolation. For the Magic, Nikola Wojciech stood out with 34 and Terence Ross with 23.
Harden started in the Hunts’ five, and collaborated alongside Durant (for the first time since their joint stint in Oklahoma City). Brooklyn and Orlando were close for most of the game, with the Magic knowing how to give a nice fight to the star duo – and even lead by five points towards the end of the third quarter. But in the final quarter, the talent gap was evident – Harden and Durant continued to be precise, and Brooklyn finished its first Hoy in the Big Three era.
James Harden is the 7th player in NBA history with a triple-double in their team debut, joining Russell Westbrook, Elfrid Payton, Lewis Lloyd, John Shumate, Nate Thurmond, and Oscar Robertson. pic.twitter.com/kie3uj2YfP
