Tower Semiconductor, the world leader in technological solutions and production platforms for analog chips, announced on Wednesday, March 17, 21, an innovative and leading technology for the production of insulated capacitors that is integrated with the 0.18 micron platform, and enables the production of insulated voltage chips up to 12,000 volts.

Using this technology increases the level of safety and efficiency of power consumption in a way that is adapted to many emerging markets, including electric vehicles, green energy and industry.

The total market volume of these voltage chips is estimated at about $ 1 billion.

The latest technology provides a range of competitive advantages including smaller chip size and lower costs, thanks to the ability to integrate the insulated capacitor within an existing chip thus saving the need to manufacture an additional component.

A number of select customers are already using this technology to develop and manufacture new products such as battery chargers, power supplies, electric and hybrid vehicles, solar power converters and wind turbines as well as for various industrial uses such as motors and more.

“We are very pleased to announce this state-of-the-art technology and collaboration with a number of our customers to develop innovative products that support the growing need for efficient and safe components in various industries,” said Mr. Shimon Greenberg, VP and General Manager of the Power Management and Mixed Signal Business Division at Tower. “The innovative development supports our old and sought-after 0.18 micron platform designed for end applications up to 200 volts.”
