Be it PC or token, upcoming video games will generate a lot of hype. In a year like 2020 where most people were indoors for months, the game made life a little easier. 2020 was also a big year for consoles as we saw the launch of the Sony PlayStation 5, the Xbox Series X and Series S, and even the surprising KFC Console.
While titles like The Last of Us: Part 2 lived up to the hype and games like Animal Crossings: New Horizons went higher than expected, others like CyberPunk 2077 left fans breaking- expectation. Nevertheless, with the launch of next-gen main consoles out of the way, a lot of 2021 games are planned across all platforms. Here are the top 10 games you should be looking forward to next year.
Hitman 3
As the eighth installment in the series, IO Interactive’s Hitman 3 will be a sequel to the World of Assassination series, also featuring Hitman (2016) and Hitman 2 (2018). The popular stealth / shooting title is well-known by gamers and critics for their unique style of play. Hitman allows players to take on the role of Agent 47 again, allowing them to engage in crushing guns, or with a stealthy, strategic approach.
As 47 travel the world to take down new assassination targets, players must rely on the tools, environment, instinct and wit to do the job, in the style of Hitman. Hitman 3 will be available for play on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S, Google Stadia and Nintendo Switch. The game is expected to release in January 2021.
Halo Infinite
Halo Infinite is another new installment in a popular series. The sixth game in the Halo series and 14th title in the franchise, Halo Infinite once again puts players in the shoes of Master Chief. Originally planned for a 2020 release, Halo Infinite was pushed to 2021 as a few other titles on this list. The game employs traditional first-person mechanics as Master Chief examines a damaged Halo ring and encounters a new enemy.
Along with single-player campaign mode, the game will also feature a multiplayer mode. Halo Infinite will be available to play on Microsoft Windows, Xbox One and Xbox Series X / S. The game is expected to launch in late 2021, so don’t put your hopes high until the second half of the year.
Forbidden West Horizon
Horizon Zero Dawn was a huge success when it launched in 2017. Three years later, Horizon Forbidden West follows the story of Aloy, a hunter who tries to save her post-apocalyptic world from the dangerous tools. The third-person gameplay will feature a larger map and take players to iconic new locations, including post-apocalyptic San Francisco and Yosemite Valley. Players join Aloy in her hunt for a secret pest source that kills anything he suffers.
A new element added to Horizon Forbidden West is in underwater exploration, allowing players to immerse themselves in the rivers, lakes and oceans they encounter in the quest. Horizon Forbidden West will be available for the Sony PlayStation 4 and Sony PlayStation 5. Developed by Guerrilla Games, the title is set for release in Q3 / Q4 2020.
The Legacy of Hogwarts
Be it books, movies or games, what Harry Potter has done over the years has made us all wish the magical world of the franchise was real. Every fan of the series wanted to experience the events like Hogwarts for themselves. With Hogwarts Legacy, players finally get their wish. Set in the late 1800s, the action title allows players to graduate into Hogwarts as students.
Through the open world of Hogwarts, with locations such as the Forbidden Forest and the town of Hogsmeade, players will learn to cast various spells, brewing and magical beasts. Hogwarts Legacy will be available on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X / S.
Far Cry 6
Far Cry 6 brings the goodness of the first-person adventure of the Far Cry series to the Caribbean island of Yara, where players must step into the shoes of Dani Rojas, a local soldier, to defy rule ” El Presidente ”Antón Castillo, a fascist dictator who rules the island. Far Cry 6 will allow players to recruit mobile weapons, and vehicles, allowing them to recruit other soldiers through a new “Fangs for Hire” system.
With a single-player campaign as well as a multiplayer mode, Far Cry 6 was initially slated to launch in February 2021 but will be delayed due to the pandemic. It will be developed by Ubisoft Toronto and will be released for Amazon Luna, Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S and Google Stadia.
Residential city
Resident Evil Village is the eighth installment in the survival horror video game series. The game succeeds the events of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and follows Ethan as an unexpected new character appears, setting a series of events, all leading to a mysterious city.
Resident Evil Village will be developed by Capcom and will have a first-person view, using the RE Engine. The title will be available on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S.
Knights of Gotham
Unlike standard DC games based on Batman, the events of the Knights of Gotham begin with a seemingly limited death of the stripper. The story of the game follows the four Knights of Gotham – Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl and Red Hood, who are responsible for the safety of Gotham City after the city’s police department became corrupt following the death of James Gordon. The game will also feature Owl Court, a criminal association with an army of brainwashed assassins known as Talons.
The action-packed game will be set in Gotham City in the open world and will be played from the perspective of the four heroes, each with their own unique abilities. The game will feature a single-player campaign but there will also be a two-player cooperative multiplayer mode. The game will be released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X / S.
Gran Turismo 7
The upcoming racing game will be developed by Polyphony Digital and will be the eighth installment in the series, and will feature a GT Simulation mode returning with the game’s single-player definition campaign. Polyphony Digital has also added several traditional racing tracks and vehicles to the new game. In addition to this, the game will also have a multiplayer mode.
Set to bring together the best of the past, present and future, Gran Turismo 7 will bring back some of the flagship features, and the latest vehicles, and will use the processing power of the PlayStation 5 next-gen to create a whole new experience. Released back in June 2020, the game will be available to play on the Sony PlayStation 5.
God of War Ragnarok
God of War 9 doesn’t have an official name yet, but it is known as the God of War: Ragnarok. It is currently being developed by SIE Santa Monica Studios and will follow the story of Kratos after the events of God of War (2018), the last game in the franchise. The game will expand the God of War universe from Greek folklore to Norse folklore and will feature main Viking characters throughout the campaign such as Odin and Thor.
The game will also feature the return of Atreus, the son of Kratos, and will be set among the upcoming Ragnarok, the end of days for the Viking Gods, which was moved after the events of the last game. The title will be available to play on the PlayStation 5.
Death Light 2
Fans of the original Dying Light (2015) parkour / survival game, Techland’s Dying Light 2 opens the world’s first-person role-playing game set in a zombie apocalypse. Following the story of Aiden Caldwell, Dying Light 2 equips the player with a number of new parkour skills that allow them to travel through the open world of the game. Four times larger than the game’s original map, Dying Light 2 features a larger city.
In addition to a single-player campaign, the game will also feature a four-player cooperative multiplayer mode. It will be available for play on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S / X. Following a delay in the originally planned 2020 release, the game is expected to be rolled out launched in 2021, with the developers hoping to find a little more information about the same soon.
