Too Fast, Too Fantasy XV: Eight days to go

Getting a feature that gives me HUD-less images is something that every video game should have.

Kotaku game diaryKotaku game diaryThe latest thoughts from a Kotaku employee about a game we’re playing.

There are eight days left to Final Fantasy XV disappearing from Xbox Game Pass and with it, my Xbox Series S.

Yesterday, I was starting a big question start and complete Final Fantasy XV in the few days left, and after Day 1, I only [checks watch] three hours in. Oh boy.

Technically that number should be higher since I took the time to go through the game’s combat and folklore tutorials, which I’m very glad I did. I haven’t played this game since it was launched five years ago, and the only thing I can remember about the gameplay is that it gave me trouble.

Although I look better now than I did back then, it’s hard to try at the right time, so I almost always end a fight with a slew of HP left. Since this is the Royal Editing I have the Ragnarok, an overpowering sword that kills enemies in a couple of hits. I hope the sword remains useful for a long time, as fighting is the only concern I have about finishing this game.

Trying to get through FF15 as soon as possible means aiming only at major quests. I’m afraid I’ll be hooked without the extra EXP chunk that comes with side quests, which makes me grind and thus waste time. I estimate (ie praying) that it will not take me more than 40 hours to reach an end – a generous estimate given Kotakuown review clock just 20 hours to complete the main question. By crushing 40 hours as my target gives me room to spend any time grinding and my own inclination to just do side-quests even though I have no right. Even last night, with a good knowledge of damn I’m on a clock, me still He managed to get caught in some forbidden side issues.

Me: All right. I’m on the clock so there are no side-quests, no hunting, just main quests.

Also me: But the mineral investment for Dino is right there, it will take just one second!
[One hour and 3-4 strung together fetch quests and hunts later]

I, for my prediction: SHIT!

I loved how Noctis decides to just sit behind the Regalia. Such a beautiful moment, without a word.

So if I fail at my task, I know that it was my full ability to focus that made me enter. But honestly, how could anyone stick to the essential track in such a nice game, and with a bros as chummy as Noctis and co?

Speaking of chummy bros—damn I forgot how beautiful the opening of this game is. Last fantasy games usually open with a big set battle – a fuck yeah! minutes to pump the blood. Final Fantasy VII starting with the bomb run, into FF9 you kidnap a princess, enter FF10 a giant ass monster hits your underwater football game. In Final Fantasy XV, your car breaks down so you and your shoes have to get out and push as Florence and the Machine sing “Stand By Me.”

Just the idea of being out in the sun, on a road trip with your best friends, traveling to your own wedding because someone is singing along “no matter what the horrors come, while in being together we will be fine ”goal so differently in 2021.

I confess it, I cried. I’m crying now writing this thinking about the friends and family I haven’t seen and miss so much. FF15 shining brighter in the small moments between his characters – Prompto pictures, Ignis food, and all the fun and quiet calm – small moments that I didn’t experience with my own friends in what feel forever. I look forward to experiencing more of these moments as my journey through Eos continues.
