Tom & Jerry Review: ‘A sad, hopeless attempt’

The Tom & Jerry live-action hybrid comedy film, based on the iconic frenemy duo, is out in theaters but so far, critics are encouraging it. The film currently maintains a sad rate of 24 percent on the site of the Rotten Tomatoes review collection. Chloë Grace Moretz, Michael Peña, Colin Jost, Rob Delaney, and Ken Jeong appear in the film in key roles. Tim Story has written a script with Kevin Costello.

The film finds the ever-fighting cat and mouse duo in New York. They make their way into a hotel ready to host a high-profile wedding. Grace Moretz character Kayla hoodwinks is making her way into the role of event manager for the wedding. Chaos continues as Kayla struggles to keep an eye on Tom and Jerry as the presence of a rodent could put the whole thing off and undermine the reputation of the hotel.

Critics say the film will not satisfy adults (who may have liked Tom & Jerry as children) or children.

David Fear of Rolling Stone wrote, “The actors received auditions. The cat and the mouse got their glory days revived one last time, and no one called them Itchy or Scratchy, not once. ”

Brian Tallerico at RogerEbert.com wrote, “They fail equally for adults who grew up on Tom & Jerry, and their children who have never heard of these characters.

Jason Bailey of the New York Times wrote, “It’s a sweat, a hard, hard effort to make Tom and Jerry look like the only thing they never did: cool. ”

Channel Awesome review Doug Walker was one of those who was very optimistic. He wrote, “As a cinematic comedy it’s bad, but as a Tom and Jerry cartoon it’s good, it’s not good, it’s good. Mixed bag but I laughed enough at the slapstick to recommend it. ”

Tom & Jerry released in India on February 19th. On HBO Max in the US, it started streaming on February 26th.
