Tom Curry welcomes England’s ‘Winter Island’ winter culture as a way to keep spirits high among the strict safety measures designed to reduce the risk of coronavirus outbreaks.

New protocols introduced for the Six Nations include guidance that any socialization must be outside at the defensive champions camp at the Lensbury.

A large chess set is among the games available and to keep the players warm in the winter a bonfire was set up as a statement on the actual TV show.

Fullback Elliot Daly is described as “Love Island without the weather” and Curry agreed: “It’s just that – just with extra rain and cold.

“There are different ways to accept these rules and changes and the fire pit, table tennis, outdoor chess – big outdoor chess – are inspiring. You have to take your jacket with you. We have to make sure we follow the rules.

“We have more time on our own too. We still have coffins around the fire, but there’s also a little more ingenuity when you’re on your own – books, research, anything.”
