Tierney out of an Arsenal game with Wolves, Aubameyang back in training

Arsenal have confirmed that Kieran Tierney will miss Tuesday’s Premier League game with Wolves, but the Gunners have been promoted by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang returning to training.

Tierney ruled out a 0-0 draw at Arsenal with Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday due to discomfort in his right calf – and manager Mikel Arteta revealed at his press conference on Monday that the Scotland return to training with the rest of the squad.

“They haven’t been able to train with us yet, so I think it’s going to be very difficult for them,” Arteta said of Tierney and Bukayo Saka. “I don’t know, we’re going to try until the last minute – see how they feel.”

Saka, who also lost the draw with the Red Devils, is in contention against the Wolves on Tuesday after returning to training, but Tierney will not take part in the game.

“Kieran continues to be assessed for discomfort in the right leg,” the club said in a statement. “Kieran is not available for Tuesday’s game.

“Bukayo Saka lost Saturday’s game with a sore hip. Bukayo has now returned to full training and availability will be assessed before Tuesday’s game. “

Aubameyang has not appeared for the Gunners since he pulled out of the squad on the eve of the FA Cup match with Southampton on 23 January.

It was later revealed that the Gabonese international’s mother had been ill.

The promoter said in the middle of last week that he had returned home and was hoping to join the squad soon, but missed the United game amid talk that he would need quarantine after to leave the bubble of Arsenal. Aubameyang’s return to training shows that he performed negative coronavirus tests, and is controversial for the trip to the Wolves.

Dani Ceballas and Pablo Mari, meanwhile, have suffered calf injuries and are controversial, but January signing Mat Ryan is still struggling with a hip problem and will not be able to sit on the bench as a cover for first-choice keeper Bernd Leno.

As a result of the draw by United, Arsenal fell to 10 in the table, eight points behind Leicester who are currently in fourth place qualification in the Champions League.
