Three Sins of India: How the Terror Run-Out Revealed in the Sydney Trial

India missed a good chance to take a big grip in the third Test in Sydney after three careless runs ran the back in the first innings at the SCG on Saturday.

This is the first time in 12 years that three Indian battalions have gotten out in a Test run. The last time such an incident occurred was back in 2008 in the 2nd innings of Mohali’s trial against England.

Overall, this is the seventh position for India with 3 runs-out. Apparently, they have not won any of those 6 games in the past.

Hazelwood brilliance

Hazlewood stopped the cricket fraternity with an incredible reflex throw to get a direct blow and claim Hanuma Vihari’s wicket.

After bowling 16 petals, Hoff was a midfielder, he was able to release the ball before it hit the ground – and his mistake went on as well. A crucial partnership that was building between Pujara and Vihari was broken and India’s score card at that level was 142/4.

The second sin

It’s hard to know who was to blame for this one but knowing that Ashwin won’t take those slick songs, Jadeja shouldn’t have asked for it. He drove a full-length delivery to midfield and Cummins quickly collected the ball and then fired a rocket at the keeper’s head where Labuschagne grabbed the ball and took off the bailies before receiving Ashwin there. From 195/5, India was abruptly down to 206/7 at this rate.

The last nail

Running out of Bumrah may be Jadeja’s judgmental judgment. After finishing one run, the south called for two and Bumrah had to pay the price. All of this happened when Jadeja put a ball through a short leg and again it was Labuschagne when he exploded back, collected the ball, and then hit the bull’s eye at the bowler’s head. Bumrah was no longer in the frame as India went nine down with 216 runs on the board.

Indian bats have eliminated the running of this series – Kohli, Rahane, Vihari & Ashwin. The last time four or more of the top eight in India were out of a row in Pakistan was 1989/90 – Sachin Tendulkar’s maiden test series. Manjrekar, Azharuddin, Sidhu, Prabhakar & Tendulkar were run in that series
